Overview

Alibaug and Diveagar are popular coastal destinations near Mumbai, known for their beaches and relaxed atmosphere. Alibaug, a municipal council in Raigad district, offers historical sites like Kolaba Fort and is a popular weekend getaway. Diveagar, a smaller, serene village, boasts clean white sands, lush greenery, and calm waters, making it ideal for relaxation and water sports. 

The Birla Mandir complex also houses a temple dedicated to Buddha along with fresco paintings describing his life. The temple also has separate shrines for other gods such as Shiva, Ganesh, Saraswati, Hanuman, Brahma, Lakshmi and Saibaba. In the evening, Birla Mandir presents a spectacular sight upon illumination.

Itinerary

06:30 AM – Depart from Mumbai / Pune

 Breakfast halt en route at a local dhaba.

09:00 AM – Reach Alibaug Beach

  • Stroll along the black-sand beach

  • Optional: camel rides, horse cart, and photo ops with Kolaba Fort in the backdrop

09:45 AM – Visit Kolaba Fort (if tide allows)

  • Short boat ride or walk during low tide

  • Explore ancient cannons, fort walls, and small temples

11:00 AM – Head towards Birla Temple (Salav) (~20 min drive)

  • Marvel at the white marble temple set atop a hill

  • Seek blessings of Lord Ganesha (Vikram Vinayak)

  • Enjoy peaceful gardens and panoramic views

12:00 PM – Depart for Diveagar (~1 hr 30 min drive)


Afternoon

01:30 PM – Reach Diveagar Beach

  • Relax on the serene, clean beach with coconut groves

  • Optional: Quick water sports like banana boat, parasailing (if available seasonally)

02:15 PM – Visit Suvarna Ganesh Temple

  • Famous for its history of a 24-karat gold Ganesh idol (now preserved in Pune)

  • Seek blessings in the tranquil temple atmosphere

02:45 PM – Lunch at a local Konkani coastal eatery

  • Enjoy fresh seafood thali / veg malvani dishes


Evening

04:00 PM – Start return journey towards Alibaug / Mandwa / Pune / Mumbai

06:30 PM – Optional sunset halt at Kihim Beach / Nagaon Beach

  • Unwind on the quieter shores with tea/snacks

  • Capture sunset views with swaying palms

07:30 PM – Head back to base city

09:30-10:00 PM – Return home
