The White Desert of Gujarat, also known as the Rann of Kutch, is a vast salt marsh located in the Kutch district of western Gujarat, India. It is one of the largest salt deserts in the world, spreading over approximately 7,500 square kilometers (about 2,900 square miles). The White Desert is famous for its stunning white salt flats that create a surreal and mesmerizing landscape, especially under moonlight and during the Rann Utsav festival.
The Rann of Kutch is divided into the Great Rann of Kutch and the Little Rann of Kutch, with the Great Rann being the larger part located mostly within Gujarat and extending to the border with Pakistan. This region was historically a shallow part of the Arabian Sea, which dried up over centuries to form the salt desert seen today.
