Unspoiled Highland eco-system of Satpura National Park is unique in nature and was established in 1981. Satpura range is a series of seven mountains extending through Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and finally terminating in Chhattisgarh. Satpura national Park is so named since it is nestled in these ranges. Satpura National Park along with Bori Sanctuary and Pachmarhi Sanctuary collectively make Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve. River Denwa divides the park into Buffer zone and Core zone. Presence of varied habitats like rivulets, grasslands, hillocks, mudflats, dense forest, deep gorges, etc. makes this park a home to plethora of biodiversity. The park is also well known for boldness of Leopards and Sloth Bears which are often sighted. Apart from other typical Central Indian fauna viz. Spotted Deer, Sambar, Blue Bull, Barking Deer, Indian Gaur, Wild Dogs, etc. one more species is found here which is not found in any other National Park of India i.e. Giant Squirrel. Quiet and non-crowded (unlike other National Parks) Satpura National Park is truly a heaven for wildlifers.
